What Defines a 'Classic Car' in Texas?
In Texas, a classic car or "vintage vehicle" is one that can be registered as such with the state. To fall under this description, your vehicle must be at least 25 years old. Interestingly, you, as the owner, must also be 25 years of age or older.
Now, there are three different types of license plates (and corresponding registrations) available to classic or antique vehicles in Texas: the classic plate, the antique plate, and the Year of Manufacture or 'YOM' plate. It's worth noting that each of these has a slightly different registration process and requirements, and the choice is generally left up to you (though you may be advised toward one or the other depending on your vehicle type). However, all three are eligible for a classic car insurance policy.
Classic Car Insurance Policies Are Specifically Designed for Your Unique Situation
Regular auto insurance policies usually assume that you are driving the vehicle regularly, are keeping it either parked on the street or in your driveway, often transport bags, groceries, and passengers, and possibly have other people driving it on occasion, aka regular driving habits. However, a classic car insurance policy is an often-better value because it considers the fact that you likely drive the vehicle less frequently and may use specialized transportation to get it to and from shows.
A class car policy also considers things like the vintage / specially designed parts needed for vehicle repairs and potential damage during car shows. It is tailored specifically to your vehicle's unique situation and needs.
